Media Interview Note Cards

For my interview, I asked my fourteen year old sister, a twenty-four year old white man, my forty-seven year old dad and a thirty-five year old black woman the media questions. Most of the answers were very similar, however there were some distinct differences that I noted.

I noticed that the twenty-four year old boy, Andrew was mostly worried about himself and how the media affected him. And I found out my dad actually really didn't like the media at all, and disagreed with most of all it except for the newspaper, and that the black woman also didn't like much of the media because she felt it was biased. And finally my younger sister seemed really uniformed about media other than the basics.

Everyone felt that the media was important in their life and they thought it was very helpful and essential in finding out more about the world and they also thought it was a great way to learn about what is happening around you. Most of everyone also thought that it affected everything they did including what they liked and how they acted, however Joann (the black woman I interviewed) was very adament in that it did not affect anything she did, but what everyone around her did and because of how it affects them, that changes how she acts.

All four them used a different media the most, but the reasons they used each device is the same, which is to be connected to the world around them and to be informed about whats going on in the world, they also used a piece of technology that allowed them to be around what was most important to them. My younger sister is always texting to stay in contact with her friends, and to know whats going on with them, My dad reads the newspaper to know whats going on with the economy and whats going on in the business world, Joann watched t.v. because she enjoys pop culture and learning about hollywood and finally Andrew uses the internet, so he can learn about the news and bussiness but also stay connected to all of his friends.

Lastly they all agreed that the worst things about the media were the negative images that it created in the world and how it can be very biased and give false information.

  1. This is a very interesting point of view. It was surprising to me that the twenty-four year old boy was most worried about how the media affected him and how each of the four used a different type of media to get their information.

  2. The fact that your sister doesn't know much about media shows how saturated we all really are. She probably doesn't even realize how much the media truly impacts her and us. I also think it is weird that Joann doesn't think the media directly impacts her, but just the people around her. I bet it really does have a direct influence on her, and she just doesn't know it.
